Q: Following TSRI code transformation, what is the quality of the modern code?

A: Following a complete modernization, the code quality is excellent.  However premium maintainability and performance requires more than just the initial transformation process itself.  It is TSRI’s automated re-factoring and semi-automated re-factoring processes that insure our customers receive high quality Java, C++, C#, etc.  Furthermore, TSRI’s JANUS Studio® can be tuned to adapt to different coding standards, (e.g. one of our customers required that their code adhere a European standard for Maintainability, Essential Complexity, and Number of Comments)

Q: What are TSRI’s Tools and Processes for legacy modernization?

A:
TSRI’s JANUS Studio® is a suite of integrated tools from which TSRI provides fully automated modernization processes. Specifically JANUS Studio® will:

  1. Perform detailed analysis of legacy source code
  2. Transform legacy source code into modern target languages.
  3. Perform initial detailed analysis of target code, (to support testing)
  4. Apply fully automated re-factoring operations
  5. Iteratively apply semi-automated re-factoring operations
  6. Perform final detailed analysis of target code, (to support testing and future system maintenance)

For more information, please call Greg Tadlock at 425-284-2770.

Q: What system-level design documentations are offered by TSRI?

A: TSRI’s JANUS Studio® generates richly indexed and hyper-linked system-level design documentation of the entire legacy system. This is called “As-Is” documentation.   Once the system is in its modernized state, the target code is also documented.  This is called “To-Be” documentation.  The “As-Is” and “To-Be” documentations can be combined to allow a side-by-side view of both systems; a “Transformation Blueprint ®”.  Customers may receive a free Transformation Blueprint ® using a sample of their own code and choice of target language.

Q: How does TSRI’s transformed code handle a new Interfaces, (GUI, database, and/or third party software)?

A: Calls to the old data structure and GUI are “stubbed out”.  This is done for testing and compiling purposes. Once the code transformation is nearly complete, TSRI uses our JANUS Studio® for semi-automatic re-factoring and engineering support to assist the integrator in uniformly attaching targeted interfaces.

Q: What tasks are the System Integrator’s responsibilities?

A: Typically the System Integrator will be responsible for the following:

  1. Customer identification & interface
  2. Requirements definition
  3. Proposal preparation
  4. Program management
  5. System testing & implementation
  6. Future system enhancements
  7. System Life-cycle support

TSRI works in support of the Systems Integrator for the entire project.

Q: How does TSRI’s approach minimize risk?

A: TSRI’s automated processes are rapid, reducing the risk from schedule slippage.  An automated transformation by TSRI’s JANUS Studio® provides code that is accurate and uniform, eliminating the risk of technical failure.  TSRI reduces financial risk by operating on a Firm Fixed Price (FFP) basis for initial tasking and Firm Fixed Rate (FFR) for testing and implementation support.

TSRI has a 100% success rate on the over seventy modernization projects undertaken as of August 2010.
